While the founder, Mr. George Eastman is developing dry gelatin plates for taking photographs, he was also making cameras that would fit into his films. In 1885, he and Mr. William Walker decided to patent their newly invented device, which can hold and advance rolled films inside the camera.
They named it Eastman Detective Camera that uses the Eastman-Walker Roll Holder. However, the vintage camera was not successful in the market. After two years of constantly improving the camera and choosing the brand name, Kodak, they have successfully invaded the field of photography during that time. And that was the start of the vintage Kodak camera.
Among its vintage Kodak cameras that took the public by storm was there Brownie camera. It is box type of camera that is already using its roll film. It has a film size of 127 and its picture size is 1 5/8 by 2 1/2.”
It was manufactured in US and assembled in England. It has a rotary shutter and meniscus lens. It has two reflecting finders and hinged back with triangular catch. In succeeding years, some variations were made like having film tension spring bearing in both ends rather than the center of its spool.
Direction arrows were also added to the winding key plate. The double crossed line embossed in the camera was replaced by double rectangles.
